                  The Research Director supports the fulfillment of the Company’s mission and vision by providing technical leadership for all aspects of a given service’s deliverables, including both research and consulting.


                  A Research Director contributes to the company’s knowledge base by being a subject matter expert, using his or her expertise to guide the creation of content, mentoring analysts and potentially consultants, developing their skill sets, and empowering them to meet the service’s goals.The Research Director works with the Service Director to ensure the quality of the knowledge and research made available to the company’s clients in the form of reports, reference architectures, presentations, and client interaction as well as the timely delivery of that content in accordance with the service’s content goals. The Research Director also works with the Service Director and the Consulting Practice Manager to leverage consulting deliverables into content for the research service.


                  A Research Director contributes directly to the service’s deliverables by authoring content, including reports, reference architectures, presentations, and client interaction. The Research Director may occasionally contribute directly to the service deliverables by performing productive consulting work (a mix of billable, content, and other productive days) particularly as it relates to generating important subsidized research, transferring knowledge to principal or senior consultants, assisting at the early stage of instantiating consulting content for new packages, or contributing to other extremely critical consulting projects.

                    • Create and manage the research calendar, including the planning of research content, consistent with the service’s product definition. This includes setting annual research goals (in terms of subjects the service covers), overseeing the objectives, quality, and scope of the Reference Architecture. In managing the research calendar, the Research Director must work with the Service Director to ensure that the service’s research goals are consistent with the service team’s capacity to produce the content.
                    • Work with and mentor both analysts and (occasionally) consultants as they create service deliverables.
                    • Drive interaction and integration across the consulting and analyst teams through various means, including cross-functional meetings and projects.
                    • Work with the Research Chair to develop and disseminate Burton Group strategy with regard to information technology.
                  • Produce research content
                    • Write three new (or heavily revised) documents or technical positions annually; the content must be of high quality and delivered in a timely fashion, consistent with deadlines defined by the service director
                    • Maintain reference architecture in accordance with Burton Group’s refresh policy and client needs
                    • Contribute to other reports and technical positions
                    • Guide and produce the yearly service VantagePoint document.
                  • Contribute to consulting objectives
                    • Work on consulting projects of strategic value when financial circumstances warrant it and when schedule permits. Except for Analyst Consulting projects, or projects of very short duration, the Research Director only conducts consulting projects as part of a team including a full-time consultant as project manager.
                    • Work with the Practice Manager and Service Director to review consulting offerings and transfer knowledge to Consultants as necessary to support both project and company objectives..
                  • Perform customer Dialogues
                    • Maintain the capacity to perform an average of four (4) dialogues per month, understanding that this requirement may fluctuate based on customer demands. The Research Director must also participate in dialogues to provide direction and support for other analysts or consultants as necessary..
                  • Participate in Catalyst conference
                    • Work with the Research Chair and other service Research Directors to determine overall direction for Catalyst.
                    • Guide the research team in preparation for Catalyst by driving agenda and focus for the service tracks, participating in the content team effort to recommend Company speakers, recruit and assign external speakers and case studies, and participate in peer review of speakers during dry runs.
